Rome

All roads lead to Rome. Needless to say, Rome is one of the great revelations of a trip around Italy.
Nowhere else will you see such a strong presence of 28 centuries of history: the Roman temples and
amphitheatres, some of which are extra-ordinarily well preserved or even intact, are an integral part
of the city's urban scenery.

One can read the cityscape and decipher its history through the architecture, from the countless
churches from the early days of Christianity or those displaying their Baroque influences, the
Renaissances palaces, the Baroque plazzas and fountains, as well as the Medieval streets and alley-
ways, which make Rome a place where all styles converse.
Rome truly is an open museum, a city that has maintained its architectural authenticity; here you
wont see the disruptive effects of modernisation or industrialism, but a place that has retained its
ancient charm.

Roman and Italian cuisine in general is part of the experience, and you can find a number of typical
dishes, and course Rome is famous for its Pizzas and Gelatos!
From time to time it is good to put your guide book to one side and just follow your nose, as you
will always find something special to see, eat, or bask in the atmosphere of the place.

The city has a marvelous collection of attractions famous world-wide: you will find ruins
everywhere, among which the Colosseum stands out on the southern side of the centre; after
crossing the Tiber, to the East, you will reach St Peter's square and the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel,
Michelangelo's “Pietà”, and many other master pieces; in the central-northern part of the centre you
can find the Trevi fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Pantheon.

If you're on a tight budget and you're looking for a place to stay night, the best thing to do is find a
dormitory in privatre youth hostel. There are also campsites around Rome, however these require a
car or long trips on public transport. If your travelling with family or friends, renting a flat also has
its advantages.
