Life in Taormina happens almost exclusively on its main street, the Corso Umberto, roughly 1km in
length.
In the summer, the countless shops and boutiques are open until late at night. Take advantage of
your holiday in Sicily and clean out all the Taormina shops!
In the many little alleyways and streets that run across the Corso Umberto, one can find a number of romantic restaurants which specialize in Sicilian cuisine, and a series of very pleasant pubs and bars, ideal to supplement your stay in Taormina.
About half way through the main street is the Piazza IV Aprile with the Taormina gazebo.
From Piazza IV Aprile, you have an exceptional view of Giardini di Naxos coast and of the lord of
the island, Mount Etna. On a clear day you can even see Calabria on the Italian peninsula!
Around the piazza there are also a number of very frequented bars, and you will most likely see
caricaturists and various other artists.
The public gardens (Giardini Pubblici) are the ideal place to rest under a shady spot at mid-day, in the summer. From here also you can see the Naxos gardens and Mount Etna.
