Atrani is an extension of Amalfi really, and was indeed another part of the maritime republic, twin of Amalfi, place of investiture of the Duchy and residence of the Nobles.. with a similarly styled church sporting another set of bronze doors from Constantinople, manufactured in 1086.Its a quiet place, which benefits from all the attention bestowed upon its neighbour, with a pretty, almost entirely enclosed little square, Piazza Umberto, opening onto a usually gloriously peaceful and free patch of sandy beach - hard to believe the bustle of Amalfi is just around the corner.
